This self-paced program combines clinicals and classroom experience covering all aspects of nursing necessary for completion of the national licensing exam for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). An LPN is trained to provide routine nursing care and is allowed to perform more complex tasks only under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or dentist. They bring their caring, sympathetic nature to hospitals, home health care services, nursing care facilities, physicians’ offices and other health care providers and agencies.
Meet The Instructors
Barbara Simmons, R.N., B.S.N., M.Ed., M.S.N., received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Central State University, her Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
She has experience in medical surgical nursing, has worked as a house supervisor and was a Public Health Nurse for five years. She began her career in Nursing Education at Wes Watkins Technology Center in 1988 and became the Nursing Coordinator at Autry Technology Center in 1991.
Esmeralda Herrera, R.N., B.S.N., completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Prior to completing her bachelor’s degree, she received an Associate of Science, Pre-Baccalaureate Nursing degree from Northern Oklahoma College. Mrs. Herrera worked as a nurse aide for almost two years at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
After completing her BSN, she worked for Hospice Circle of Love as a staff nurse and then admissions/quality assurance nurse. Mrs. Herrera joined the nursing staff at Autry Technology Center in 2016.
Andrea Winter, R.N., B.S.N. has been a Registered Nurse for 20 years.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1997 and has been teaching at
Autry Technology Center since 2005.
Ms. Winter is an active advisor in the local HOSA organization.
Vicki Janky, R.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., competed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma. She spent most of her nursing career as an ICU nurse. She also served as a house supervisor, clinical nurse educator and employee health nurse.
Mrs. Janky was also a clinical instructor for nursing students at an educational institution prior to coming to Autry Technology Center in 2001. Ms. Janky is ACLS certified and has been an ACLS/BLS instructor since 2000.
